Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has taken an important step towards sustainability with the approval of an ambitious project led by Neoenergia Pernambuco . The recent ordinance allows the company to increase renewable energy generation in Fernando de Noronha, using photovoltaic systems and battery storage, framed in the Noronha Verde project.
This progress marks an achievement in the archipelago’s energy transition, which aims to achieve 85% decarbonization by 2027. Currently, Fernando de Noronha relies heavily on diesel, a polluting and expensive source. With this transformation, the island will become the first in Latin America to achieve such a significant shift towards clean energy .
