NORDEN and Meta seek to promote the decarbonisation of the maritime industry through the use of biofuels. This agreement reaffirms the commitment of both companies to reduce emissions from maritime transport.
NORDEN and Meta implement Book & Claim solution
The agreement includes a Book & Claim solution, which allows Meta to take advantage of emissions reductions from biofuels used in NORDEN’s operations, without the need for these fuels to be physically available on a specific trade route. This solution proposes that ISCC-certified biofuels can offer a life-cycle emissions reduction of up to 80-90%.
This emissions reduction model employs a chain of custody registration and claim system, ensuring transparency and traceability in the allocation of emissions reductions from biofuels.
NORDEN COO Anne Jensen commented: “We are delighted to add Meta to our growing list of clients committed to decarbonising maritime transport. This agreement demonstrates the power of collaboration between leading companies to advance the sustainability of our global supply chains. “.
For its part, Meta aims to achieve net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2030. According to Meta’s Net Zero Strategy Director, Devon Lake, ” Innovative solutions such as those offered by NORDEN are essential to achieving our emissions reduction targets, especially in the field of maritime freight transport .”
This agreement has implications for sustainability, economic growth and job creation in the sector. The Book & Claim model offers an accessible route for companies from different industries to invest in biofuels and reduce their carbon footprint, even when these fuels are not directly available on their trade routes.
