During the third day of the ASNT 2024 Conference , Serge Duarte, Chief Innovation Officer of Photonis, shared exclusive details on the launch of Neutronis , a neutron imaging system that promises to transform industrial inspections .
Neutron imaging available in laboratories
Photonis, part of the Exosens Group, specializes in advanced radiation detection solutions. On this occasion, the company was present at ASNT with Neutronis , a project that aims to bring neutron imaging to industrial laboratories . This innovative system is designed to offer images with unique contrasts, impossible to obtain with traditional technologies such as X-rays .
Duarte stressed that Neutronis includes highly sensitive detectors capable of capturing the lowest levels of radiation , a challenge in this type of technology, since neutron sources are less bright than X-ray sources.
Our detector is extremely efficient, even under low radiation conditions.

Unlike other solutions available, Photonis aims to market Neutronis as a complete system that laboratories can purchase and install. Currently, neutron imaging is only available as a service in a few places around the world. Duarte stressed that Photonis is looking to break away from this traditional model.
Our intention is to offer this complete system, similar to X-rays, for direct use in laboratories.
Duarte said.
Market and distribution prospects
Although the project is in its early stages of commercialization, Duarte said that the price of the complete system will be around $2 million , similar to high-end X-ray equipment. In terms of distribution and technical support, the company will work with integration partners that will offer maintenance in different regions of the world.
As for the US market, Duarte confirmed that they are in talks with potential partners, although he could not reveal further details at the moment.
Reception at ASNT 2024
The launch of Neutronis has generated great interest among ASNT 2024 attendees, Duarte said, highlighting a “very positive reception” even with one more day to continue showing the capabilities of its system.
With Neutronis , the Exosens Group is poised to mark a turning point in the imaging inspection industry, providing a powerful and accessible tool for detecting details that are impossible to visualize with other technologies.
