Neptune Energy, together with its licensing partners, has announced the discovery of oil and gas in the Calypso exploration well, located on production license PL938, in the Norwegian Sea.
The Calypso was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,496 meters with the Deepsea Yantai, a GM4D semi-submersible rig designed for harsh environments.
The well encountered a gas column of approximately 8 meters and an oil column of approximately 30 meters in a 131-meter sandstone reservoir of the Garn formation, with good to very good quality.
Preliminary estimates indicated between 1 and 3.5 million standard cubic meters (MSm3) of recoverable oil equivalents, which corresponds to between 6 and 22 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
According to Odin Estensen, CEO of Neptune Energy Norway, these nearby discoveries allow for low-cost, low-carbon development.
