Naturgy , through its subsidiary Global Power Generation (GPG), has put into operation the Hawkesdale wind farm , located in the state of Victoria, Australia. With a capacity of 97 MW , this park will produce enough renewable energy to supply 67,000 homes and will be destined mainly for Amazon .
The agreement between Naturgy and Amazon reinforces the e-commerce company’s commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This agreement further solidifies Amazon’s position as the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the world , with more than 500 wind and solar projects, of which 79 are in Spain.
Hawkesdale Wind Farm Commissioned
The launch of Hawkesdale will significantly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is estimated that this wind farm will avoid the emission of 333,000 tons of CO2 each year , a further step in the global effort to combat climate change. This initiative also reinforces Naturgy’s role as a leader in the energy transition towards clean energy sources.
With the activation of Hawkesdale, Naturgy increases its renewable capacity in operation in Australia to 492 MW, equivalent to the energy consumption of 320,600 homes . In addition to its wind farms, the company also put into operation in 2023 its first battery energy storage project in the country, known as ACT Battery , and is advancing new photovoltaic projects in the region.
Naturgy’s presence in Australia
Naturgy continues with its expansion strategy in Australia, with projects such as the Crookwell 3 and Ryan Corner wind farms , the latter with a capacity of 218.4 MW, the company’s largest in the country.
It is also working on building hybrid solar plants with batteries, such as the one in Cunderdin, which will further increase its presence in the renewable energy sector.
