Naturgy has signed a strategic agreement with Bioeco Energías to develop new biomethane plants in Spain. This agreement will allow both companies to develop new facilities with a combined capacity to produce more than 500 GWh annually.

The strategic agreement for the development of biomethane plants

The biomethane production generated by these new plants will be added to the projects initiated by Naturgy ‘s alliance with Hispania Silva , increasing the total biomethane production capacity to 3 TWh per year. This figure is equivalent to the energy consumption of 600,000 homes and will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an amount equivalent to planting 59 million pine trees, a favorable indicator for the European country.

The biomethane produced at these facilities will be distributed through existing gas networks, eliminating the need for additional investments in energy infrastructure. This model allows Naturgy to offer renewable gas as an energy vector for a fair and competitive transition, focused on the circular economy.

In addition to clean energy production, the agreement with Bioeco Energías includes waste management, promoting the use of organic fertilizers and clean irrigation water for agricultural soils in local communities. This approach makes the project a comprehensive solution to strengthen the structure of the energy and agri-food sectors, bringing both environmental and economic benefits to the region.

We are delighted with this partnership with Bioeco Energías. They provide us with their experience in the area, allowing us to understand firsthand the needs and sensitivities of the environment we will be working with during the operation of our plants.
