NASA awards $24 million contract for recycling and garbage collection

NASA has selected Ahtna Integrated Services LLC, a company based in Anchorage, Alaska, to manage cleaning, recycling and trash collection services at NASA Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. The contract, which combines a fixed fee with a flexible delivery schedule, represents a commitment of up to $24 million, with an initial term beginning November 1, 2024, and with renewal options through 2029.

About garbage collection procedures

Ahtna Integrated will be responsible for custodial and cleaning duties, as well as recycling and waste management at NASA Ames. At the core of the service are environmental health and safety, hygiene compliance and a focus on user satisfaction.

During the first 60 days, the company will implement a gradual integration process to fine-tune the operation.

The contract is a step forward in NASA’s commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management , a key aspect of its facilities. This agreement also reflects the agency’s collaboration with local suppliers to improve sustainability practices and meet environmental standards.
