Swiss shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced significant changes to its shipping services in Asia and North America. The company will launch a new fast connection between Haiphong in Vietnam and California, and will transfer all calls of the “Sentosa” service in China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and India to a new service called “Shikra.”
The “Sentosa” loop currently covers Port Kelang, Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore and California. However, starting this month, “Sentosa”‘s rotation will be shortened to cover only Laem Chabang, Cai Mep, Haiphong, Long Beach, Oakland, and Busan. The new call at the Vietnamese port of Haiphong will be the last for export in East Asia, offering a fast transit time of just 16 days from Haiphong to Long Beach.
MSC has the solution with its new service “Shikra”
The new “Shikra” service will cover the connection between India, Southeast Asia and the Far East. The first voyage of the 15,934 TEU ship “MSC Mara” will take place on May 23 from Qingdao. The route will include calls in Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Shekou, Singapore, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Colombo, Port Kelang, Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Cai Mep and Qingdao.
These changes will be made to improve the efficiency and speed of MSC’s shipping service in Asia and North America. With the elimination of calls on the “Sentosa” service and the creation of the “Shikra” loop, MSC will offer new shipping options for its customers in the region.
