Morocco, thanks to its proactive policy, has carried out important projects in renewable solar and wind energy that have allowed it to position itself as a world leader in this sector, underlines a policy brief from the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS).
The document indicates that, according to the latest Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) report, Morocco topped the adjusted index thanks to its ambitious plans for solar, wind and, more recently, green hydrogen, in the search of a 52% green energy share by 2030.
At the end of last year, Mostafa Terrab, President and CEO of the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) Group, presented to His Majesty King Mohammed VI a very ambitious green investment project of almost 13 billion dollars in the period (2023- 2027) which should ultimately allow all its industrial facilities to be supplied with green energy. To this end, the OCP Group plans significant investments in the desalination of seawater (560 million m3) as well as the production of 1 million tons of green ammonia. These investments will allow OCP to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
The High Royal Instructions reaffirm the interest of the positioning of Morocco capitalizing on the achievements, building an attractive and operational offer and promoting the development of competitive value chains.
