El Cerulean Ace, un transportador avanzado propulsado por GNL

Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is acquiring the LNG-powered aircraft carrier Cerulean Ace under shipbuilder Shin Kurushima Dockyard. This event was celebrated with a special naming and award ceremony at Onishi Shipyard on March 13.

This ship joins MOL’s fleet of eleven innovative LNG-powered car carriers. This new acquisition is expected to play a crucial role in the transportation of Mazda Motor Corporation vehicles, thus improving the export logistics of the renowned Japanese automotive brand, and the commercial results for the entire economic sector in the region.

Cerulean Ace: an advanced LNG-powered transporter

With an impressive wingspan of almost 200 meters long and 38 meters wide, the Cerulean Ace can accommodate up to 7,050 vehicles in its bowels. An outstanding feature is the implementation of artificial intelligence systems, designed to monitor safety inside the warehouse, capable of detecting fires and alerting about any irregularities by analyzing video images.

The incorporation of Starlink technology ensures onboard connectivity, offering fast transmission speeds and low latency performance essential for modern maritime operations.

The use of LNG as a source of energy enables M O L to advance in the race toward sustainability. This clean fuel promises to significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

The previous year, the company introduced a new visual identity and nomenclature for its car carriers, aligning with its mission to “sustain human life and ensure a prosperous future from the blue oceans.”
