China’s Chang’e 7 mission is part of a lunar exploration program, which will focus on the Moon’s south pole in mid-2026. This project includes six scientific payloads, coming from different countries, highlighting the global interest in lunar research.
The purpose of the study of the lunar south pole
The mission will deploy an orbiter, a lander and a mobile probe that will work together to study various aspects of the lunar south pole. This will allow for breadth in data collection.
Among the main objectives is the analysis of water ice and volatiles in the shadows of craters , a potentially essential resource for future human missions and possible permanent bases.
The Chang’e 7 probe will include advanced instruments such as cameras, radars, mineral and water analyzers, spectrometers and magnetometers, which will provide valuable data on the morphology, composition and internal structure of the Moon. These instruments are essential to better understand the lunar environment and prepare the ground for future exploration.
