Catona Climate has entered into an agreement with Microsoft for the purchase of 350,000 tons of credits to achieve a carbon phase-out in Kenya. This project, designed and managed in partnership withTrees for the Futurereflects Microsoft’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its ambition to achieve a negative carbon footprint by 2030.
Located in Homa Bay, near Lake Victoria, the agroforestry project collaborates with 15,000 local farmers. Through the creation of forest gardens, which integrate trees, shrubs and crops at different levels, the project not only improves agricultural yields without resorting to chemicals, but also combating deforestation, biodiversity loss and the adverse effects of droughtwhile providing stable income and food security to the community.
