The EP approves a law to reduce methane emissions and combat the pollution it produces. One of the main environmental problems facing Europe and threatening the health of the countries. This affects ecosystems after being released into the atmosphere through industrial, natural and anthropogenic processes, seriously affecting the planet.
Benefits of the new European Parliament law
This new law, called the “New Strasbourg Law”, comes under European Union legislation aimed at restoring damaged ecosystems in Europe. This law was approved by the European Parliament and will come into force in 2025.
The first benefit offered by the New Strasbourg Law is to restore 30% of Europe’s damaged ecosystems by 2030. In addition, it aims to halt ecosystem degradation while increasing the resilience of ecosystems to climate change and other latent threats. And finally, to improve people’s quality of life by providing access to nature.
With this new law, the European Union promises improvements in biodiversity, water and air quality. Plans are also made to minimize the risks of floods and droughts, thus safeguarding natural resources.
The importance of reducing methane emissions
It is important to mention that methane methane emissions emissions have increased since the pre-industrial era. These emissions contribute to global warming and climate change. Methane is an urgent problem that requires global action. By reducing methane emissions, we can protect the environment.
