Jamaica’s Ministry of Energy expects to solicit proposals to procure power generation, including renewables, this quarter.
The portfolio made the announcement in response to an editorial in local newspaper The Gleaner that claimed the government has been slow to move forward with incorporating these clean energy sources.
“The assumption that Jamaica’s investment decisions on renewables or generation capacity are being made in a vacuum is unfounded and inaccurate,” the ministry said in an open letter to the newspaper’s editor.
The government agency noted that it has partnered with multilateral lenders to develop procurement rules and guidelines.
