SONATRACH y Huawei lanzan solución para inspeccion de oleoductos y gasoductos

SONATRACH, Algeria’s state-owned oil company, together with Huawei, has presented an innovative solution for pipeline inspection at MWC Barcelona 2024. This pioneering solution incorporates advanced fiber optic sensing technology to improve the safety, intelligence and operational efficiency of pipeline systems.

With approximately 43 oil and gas pipelines under its management, spanning 14,000 km and equipped with optical cables, SONATRACH has faced challenges with traditional manual inspection methods, which are costly and inefficient, lacking real-time monitoring capabilities. In response, SONATRACH’s Joint Innovation Center, in collaboration with Huawei and other partners, has sought to optimize operations, reduce maintenance costs, and proactively address issues with the pipeline issues through the use of cutting-edge technologies.

Pipeline Inspection Innovation

Huawei’s contribution to this initiative includes the development of a sophisticated fiber detection solution for pipelines using distributed optical fiber detection technology. This solution is based on the implementation of the Huawei OptiXsense EF3000 optical detection device, which enables automatic inspection of pipelines and the issuance of early alerts with high accuracy, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Leveraging Huawei’s optical fiber sensing solution and live network service management process, the intelligent pipeline inspection system detects external disturbances around pipelines by capturing vibration data through accompanying optical fibers. This data is transmitted to designated optical sensing devices, enabling precise location and timely response to potential threats.

Field tests have demonstrated the effectiveness of the fiber warning solution in pipeline inspection scenarios, highlighting high alarm accuracy with minimal false positives and precise positioning capabilities. Sana Lallali, manager of SONATRACH’s Joint Innovation Center, expressed her satisfaction with the results of the collaboration, highlighting the role of the solution in overcoming the challenges associated with manual inspection and risk identification. Looking ahead, SONATRACH aims to further leverage Huawei’s expertise to drive smart transformations within the oil industry.

The collaboration between the two companies marks a milestone in the adoption of smart technologies for pipeline inspection, promising an era of increased safety and efficiency in the oil and gas industry.
