A European initiative that will place Almeria, in Spain, at the international forefront in the regeneration of wastewater for subsequent reuse in agricultural irrigation in a safe and efficient manner.
The LIFE Phoenix project places the province of Almeria at the forefront of reused water. The project has an investment of more than 3.3 million euros.
A fundamental project for the future of such a precious asset in this province as water and its relationship with a potentially important sector such as agriculture. The province of Almeria is characterized as one of the places in the world where this resource is best optimized and exploited.
The project, part of the European LIFE program, is composed of an international consortium with partners such as Aguas de Portugal and the Dutch company MicroLAN; Spanish public entities such as the Diputación de Almería, the University of Almería and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadalquivir, as well as national partners such as CETIM, Newland EnTech and Aqualia, which is leading the study.
The aim of the project is to seek solutions to the increasing water scarcity in Europe due to climate change.
To carry out this project, several plants integrated in sea containers have been designed and built to develop customized solutions depending on the type of water and the size of the population. The plants will be itinerant and will be tested in several Spanish locations, starting in the province of Almeria.
