The Norwegian aluminum company Hydro has allocated an investment of 21.8 million dollars, with the purpose of establishing a new metal recycling plant in Hoyanger, Norway. Creating potential opportunities in the extraction and reconditioning of minerals.

Hoyanger’s future metal recycling plant

This new center will be located next to the existing primary aluminum smelter and aims to process 36,000 tons of aluminum scrap per year, thus contributing to Hydro’s goal of reducing its emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2018 levels. .

Recycling at this facility will encompass scrap metal from various sources , including vehicles, building facades, furniture and packaging, combining these materials with primary metal produced with renewable hydroelectric energy. The plant will also produce low-emission aluminum under the Circal and Reduxa brands, which stand out for containing 75% recycled material and for using renewable energy that limits emissions to less than 4 kg of CO₂ per kg of aluminum.

Eivind Kallevik, executive vice president of Hydro ‘s aluminum metals division, said: “Recycling is our fastest route to net zero. With this new plant, we not only increase our recycling capacity, but we also reinforce our commitment to decarbonize our production processes and support the global transition towards a greener economy.“.
