The power plant is also environmentally friendly

Located along the Yalong River in China, which originates in the Bayan Har Mountains and extends for thousands of kilometers, Kela Hydrosolar (PV) Power Plant Phase 1 represents the largest hybrid hydrosolar facility of the world.

This plant marks a significant milestone in the generation of renewable energy, as it has a capacity of 1 GW and covers an area of 16 km ² . It is connected to the Lianghekou Hydropower Station on the Yalong River through 500 kV transmission lines.

Located 50 km away, the Lianghekou Dam, with a height of 295 m, contributes to the development of renewable energy in the region with an installed capacity of 3 million kW and a water reserve of 10.8 billion m ³ .

At Kela, safety is a priority and technologies such as FusionSolar’s smart string level disconnection (SSLD) help prevent fire risks. The intelligent IV diagnosis and CV monitoring system monitors the health of more than 2 million PV modules, identifying shadows, hot spots and microcracks, thus ensuring accurate and efficient maintenance.

It should be noted that since June, the plant has begun delivering energy, with an estimated annual production of 2 billion kWh, enough to cover the annual electrical demand of one million homes. This hybrid integration not only addresses renewable energy consumption, but also provides a crucial source during summer demand peaks.

The joint innovation center of Yalong Hydro and Huawei Digital Power, launched in September 2023, aims to turn the Yalong Basin into a hub of renewable energy innovation. The research focuses on the construction of clean energy bases, operational security and energy savings, among other projects.
