HIF Global will build the world’s largest synthetic fuel production facility in Texas. The company has the support of Porsche, with which it built a pilot plant in Chile for the production of these e-fuels.
After the success of this pilot project, HIF Global decided to take a new step in its strategy. This new plant will annually produce more than 750 million liters of synthetic fuel (for the transport sector and not only for automobiles).
The start of construction is scheduled for 2024 in Matagorda and it is projected that it will begin operations by 2027.
HIF Global’s largest e-fuel plant in the world will produce fuel for 400,000 vehicles
It will be the world’s first commercial-scale e-fuel plant, a key step in demonstrating that this technology has a future. The company claims that it will be able to produce enough e-fuel annually to supply some 400,000 vehicles.
To produce more than 750 million liters of synthetic fuel, the company will use some 2 million tons of CO 2 and 300,000 tons of hydrogen obtained through a hydrolysis process with renewable energy. HIF Global has not yet revealed where it will source the CO 2 , hydrogen or renewable energy to run the production plant.
In addition, it is not yet clear who will buy such a large production of synthetic fuel. Currently, the production of the plant in Chile is purchased by Porsche. HIF Global also plans to build an e-fuel plant in Tasmania, Australia to produce up to 100 million liters of synthetic fuel per year.
