French start-up HelioRec, in collaboration with Centrale Nantes of the University of Nantes, has successfully completed testing of the wave tank for its W200CM floating solar model. This full-scale prototype was designed and manufactured in Brittany by EMP ROTOMOULAGE, a company specialized in rotational molding, and assembled by the HelioRec team with the support of the Bassins d’essais group of Centrale Nantes.

During these tests, wave heights of up to one meter were reached, allowing engineers to evaluate the model’s behavior from multiple angles. To achieve detailed monitoring, they were conducted in multiple wave conditions, ranging from regular to irregular. In addition, eight wave gauges were installed in the ocean basin, along with four load cells on the catenary mooring lines, in order to accurately measure the forces involved.

Also, six load cells were strategically added at different points on the prototype to ensure detailed measurement of the applied force. To complement these measurements, Qualisys motion capture cameras accurately tracked the movements of the model’s 16 floats and four trails, enabling accurate analysis, with six degrees of freedom for each component, with the “rigid body” feature.

HelioRec’ s floating solar system integrates an advanced automatic learning system, which optimizes power generation and maintenance operations. Moreover, it adds a “hydroblocking” function that ensures the stability of the float by retaining water inside, eliminating the need for expensive materials such as metal or concrete.

The collaboration between HelioRec and EMP ROTOMOULAGE, formalized in February, reinforces the commitment of both entities to the production of floating solar systems in the Brittany region. This joint effort strengthens HelioRec’s expansion plans both in France and in Europe, and motivates other companies to create new solutions and new floating solar models. solutions and new floating solar models for the energy sector.

In June, HelioRec completed the inspection of a 25 kW floating solar plant located in the port of Brest, installed in October 2023. This installation is being used as a demonstration platform to showcase the various technologies incorporated in its new floating solar model, positioning HelioRec as an emerging leader in sustainable energy solutions.
