Sungrow Hydrogen has been selected to lead the largest project to produce green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol simultaneously. This project will be developed in China, specifically in the Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park, located in Jilin province.
This project is part of the first batch of “Low Carbon and Advanced Green Technology Demonstration Projects” promoted by China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), which is the country’s main economic planning agency. The total investment exceeds US$4 billion (approximately 3.7 billion euros).
Green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol production project
The goal of this ambitious project is to produce 110,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. green hydrogen 600,000 tons of green ammonia and 60,000 tons of green methanol . To achieve this, Sungrow Hydrogen will employ its advanced 1000 Nm³/h ALK four-in-one system.
The ALK system is based on alkaline electrolysis, a process that separates water into hydrogen and oxygen using an electric current and an alkaline solution. This system can produce 1,000 m3 of hydrogen per hour under normal temperature and pressure conditions and has four production units, allowing it to generate 4,000 m3 of hydrogen per hour in total.
Boosting the Jilin Strategy
The project stands out not only for its size, but also for its importance in Jilin province’s strategy to become a global leader in the production and use of green hydrogen. The Chinese authorities are investing heavily in this sector to achieve this goal.
This is the third tender won by Sungrow Hydrogen in Jilin and the company plans to implement its technology in other projects globally. This will enable large-scale production of green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol at various locations around the world.
