G-TEC, the Belgian company specializing in geophysical surveys, has successfully completed seabed investigations at the Doordewind wind farm in the Netherlands. This project, commissioned by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), is part of the country’s ambitious offshore wind energy plan, which aims to achieve a capacity of 21 GW.

This is how the geophysical study was carried out

During the study, G-TEC used advanced technologies to obtain detailed geophysical data. The tools employed included multibeam echosounder (MBES), side-scan sonar (SSS), subbottom profiler (SBP), and magnetometry (MAG). This wide range of equipment enabled the company to conduct a precise analysis of the seafloor in the area designated for the future wind farm.

The data obtained from this study not only provide a better understanding of the area’s geology, but are also essential for the development of an Integrated Earth Model (IGM). This model is a key component for the upcoming permitting processes, which will be conducted in the coming years.

The IGM will help companies more efficiently design necessary infrastructure, such as turbine foundations and interconnection cables between arrays.
