In February, the Ecuadorian government will award 10 solar, wind, and hydroelectric power projects for a total of 511 megawatts to national and international companies and consortiums, with an investment of USD 800 million.

Ten companies presented their offers for the development of electricity generation projects, which are part of the Non-Conventional Renewable Energies Block.

Among the interested firms are Total Eren, for the ‘Yanahurco’ wind farm, with 44.81 megawatts of power, as well as the American company Dominion Energy, which is planning to build the ‘Cajas’ photovoltaic project of 60 megawatts.

The Vice Minister of Electricity, Enith Carrión, indicated that all the projects presented generation prices below the maximum values required in the tender. For hydroelectric projects, the government would sign 30-year contracts. For wind and photovoltaic, the concession will be for 25 years. The installation of these wind and solar power plants will require a combined investment of USD 800 million.

The projects would come into operation around 2025, reported the Ministry of Energy.
