Exowave achieves validation of its wave energy technology

Exowave is nearing final validation of its wave energy technology.
Sistema Power Take Off

For the past two years, Exowave, the innovative Danish wave energy company, has been working intensively on the engineering and design of its Wave Energy Converter (WEC).

This device, which converts wave motion into hydraulic energy , is a significant advance in the field of marine energy. The Power Take-Off (PTO) system, a crucial part of this technology, converts wave motion into energy that can be used to generate electricity or even for desalination , producing fresh water.

Rapid progress in the design of the Power Take Off

Exowave’s progress in developing this technology has been exceptional. Thanks to its robust design and collaboration with experts like Semco Maritime, the assembly of the PTO has progressed more rapidly than anticipated.

The first wet tests of the technology will be conducted over the next two weeks, marking a significant milestone on its path to TRL7, the technological maturity level that will be achieved with final system validation.

Key collaboration with Gugler Water Turbines GmbH and EUDP

Gugler Water Turbines GmbH, a hydroelectric turbine expert, is also playing a key role by providing the water turbine generator system that will be integrated with Exowave’s PTO. Initial testing of this integration will be essential to confirm that the system is capable of generating electricity stably and efficiently.

This breakthrough in wave energy technology is supported by EUDP, the Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram, which has sponsored the project from its earliest stages. Final acceptance testing is scheduled for May, bringing Exowave even closer to fully validating its technology.
