A dozen former employees of OceanGate, the company responsible for the Titan submersible, will testify at a public hearing before a U.S. Coast Guard panel on September 16. This process is part of the high-level investigation following the accident that cost the lives of five people in June 2023, when the Titan imploded during its trajectory and search for the wreckage of the Titanic.

The hearing will be held in Charleston, South Carolina, and is intended to determine the causes of the incident and provide recommendations for improving safety on future undersea expeditions. The company OceanGate, suspended its operations following the tragedy, which also claimed the life of its co-founder, Stockton Rush.
Important witnesses who will appear in court include Guillermo Sohnlein, another co-founder of OceanGate, as well as former executives who played roles in engineering and operations. The Coast Guard highlighted that this board has the highest level of authority in marine accident investigation, with a focus on improving safety standards in private underwater exploration.
