A group of prestigious European energy and technology companies have formed a strategic alliance to accelerate decarbonisation through the development of the south-west hydrogen corridor, H2med .
Alliance to boost hydrogen with the H2med corridor
During an event at the German Embassy in Madrid, leaders from companies such as Moeve , thyssenkrupp nucera and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners , together with infrastructure operators such as Enagás and GRTgaz , reaffirmed their commitment to the energy transition. The meeting was attended by government representatives from Spain, Germany and Portugal, who highlighted the importance of hydrogen in achieving the climate goals of the European Green Deal and the Fitfor55 programme .
H2med is positioned as an essential element in the European energy strategy. With projects such as the BarMar submarine pipeline , which will connect Barcelona with Marseille, and the CelZa interconnection between Portugal and Spain, it is expected to transport 10% of the renewable hydrogen that Europe will consume in 2030. These initiatives have been recognized as Projects of Common Interest by the European Union.
The alliance has committed to working on integrating hydrogen supply and demand, connecting production , storage and consumption projects across several European countries. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to promote new investments in hydrogen technology and generate a ” pull effect ” to consolidate a robust hydrogen economy.
