Equinix and Neoen have signed their first power purchase agreement ( PPA ) and strengthened their personal relationships in Italy, one of the largest producers of renewable energy globally, to create new energy sources.

Strengthening agreements between Equinix and Neoen

This 10-year agreement, which includes a capacity of 53 MW generated in seven new solar projects, will allow Equinix to achieve its goal of operating with 100% renewable energy for its data centers in Italy, specifically in its Milan and Genoa facilities.

Neoen’s projects are located in Northern Italy and play a leading role in supporting the country’s Integrated National Energy and Climate Change Plan for 2030. This is the fifth PPA agreement signed by both companies in Europe, demonstrating Neoen and Equinix’s close relationship and ongoing collaboration across multiple geographies.

In addition to this important step in Italy, Equinix projects have consolidated a solid portfolio of power purchase agreements in Europe, Asia and America, with 24 contracts signed in total. These agreements will contribute to the decarbonization of the data center sector and will allow the company to generate more than 3,200,000 MWh of clean energy.

With over 8.7 GW of operational and under-construction capacity, Neoen is positioned to reach 10 GW by 2025. In addition, its focus on solar, wind and storage generation contributes to the creation of a more sustainable energy future.

Neoen Italia Business Development Director Andrea Massimo Bartolini commented: “ This agreement underlines our ability to supply renewable, reliable and competitive energy in the long term, contributing to a more competitive and sovereign Italy .”

Equinix IBX Head of Operations in Italy, Marco Matarazzo, highlighted: “ This PPA agreement reinforces our global commitment to sustainability and supports Italy’s decarbonisation objectives, aligning with our goal of being 100% renewable by 2030.
