The companies Enagás and Molins have formalized a collaboration agreement to promote their joint candidacy for the Innovation Funds 2025 with the MOSUSOL NetCO2 Project . This initiative seeks to integrate advanced carbon capture, transport, utilization and storage ( CCUS ) technologies, and position Spain as a benchmark in innovation and energy transition.

This project integrates advanced CCUS technologies with state-of-the-art CO₂ transport infrastructure, which will enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries such as cement manufacturing. The aim is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from industrial sectors, with a particular focus on the construction sector.

The capture plant will be located in Sant Vicenç dels Horts ( Barcelona ), and will allow the capture of one million tons of CO₂ annually, which will be transported by Enagás through its gas pipeline network for storage and subsequent use.

With an estimated total investment of 590 million euros, the project will contribute to the decarbonisation of industrial sectors and promote the efficient use of water in industrial processes . The open-access CO₂ transport network to be built will integrate cutting-edge technologies to optimise the life cycle of the pipeline, improving the safety and efficiency of the process.

The collaboration between Enagás and Molins has already obtained the STEP ( Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform ) seal in the call for Innovation Funds 2023, which recognises the strategic importance of this project for the European Union. The initiative will help reduce industrial emissions in Catalonia, which currently amount to 5 million tonnes per year, while laying the foundations for a scalable and replicable carbon management model throughout the Mediterranean region.

The MOSUSOL NetCO 2 project is part of our goal to continue advancing in the joint commitment to reduce the carbon footprint in industrial sectors that are difficult to reduce and represents an opportunity for Enagás and Molins to jointly lead innovation to help decarbonise the industry, while boosting its competitiveness.

Arturo Gonzalo, CEO of Enagás.

The MOSUSOL NetCO2 Project is an example of our firm commitment to decarbonisation in the construction sector. Our goal is to achieve carbon neutrality in our Sant Vicenç dels Horts factory by 2031. We are consolidating our strategy of implementing key actions for the energy transition, framed within our Sustainability Roadmap. This project is an example of how collaboration between different industrial sectors can accelerate decarbonisation and contribute to European climate objectives.

Marcos Cela, CEO of Molins.
