In a recent presentation given at the annual event of the Maintenance and Technology Council of the American Trucking Associations.Mack Trucks unveiled its innovative concept: a new electric truck, titled “Mack MD Electric”. equipped with a generator powered by renewable propane and a 120 kW high-power charger.
This new heavy-duty vehicle has been designed to act as a temporary solution, simulating a fixed charging station. This allows transport companies to evaluate the viability of electric trucks in their commercial operations without the need for a permanent installation.
More than an electric truck, a mobile assistance
Ryan Saba, manager of energy solutions for Mack Trucks explains that this mobile charging system is designed to offer flexibility to customers and dealers, allowing them to charge electric trucks during demonstration events or test drives, without the need for established charging infrastructure.
The MD Electric offers a flexible configuration as a Class 6 or Class 7 truck and is equipped with a powerful 260 hp three-phase motor. Its 240 kWh lithium-ion battery provides up to 230 miles of range.
This new model is well received in the industrial sector, being seen as one of the most capable of convincing fleet operators of the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of electric semi-trailers for commercial use.
