A Dutch farmer has designed the E-Horse, a lightweight solar-powered tractor. solar-powered tractorwhich is set to change the way farming is done. Bastian van der Veen, a plant grower, developed this machine together with the company Boessenkool. This electric tractor, which integrates solar panels on its roof, allows it to work continuously for 6 to 8 hours, ensuring efficient and almost emission-free operation.
Characteristics of the E-Horse
The E-Horse is equipped with a four-wheel steering system, which facilitates precise maneuvering even in difficult terrain. It is designed to be as light as possible to minimize soil compaction. With a battery 20 kWh battery and 8 solar panels (expandable to 12), this electric tractor offers constant power and reliable performance in the field.
Everything on this tractor is fully electric. From the traction to the lifting systems, every part of the E-Horse is designed to operate without fossil fuels. fossil fuels, helping to reducehelping to reduce agriculture’s carbon footprint. A joystick allows precise control of movement and its four-wheel drive ensures stable handling. In addition, the automatic GPS steering system makes it easy to work in large crop areas.
Design and energy efficiency
The total weight of the E-Horse is 1,880 kg without implements, which contributes to making it an agile piece of equipment for various tasks such as crop care. The steering system activates its four wheels only when necessary, allowing the vehicle to operate similarly to a conventional tractor in most situations, but with tighter turns when required.
As for future development, van der Veen and Boessenkool are working on an upgraded version that will include a fuel cell and a narrower chassis. This version will allow the use of implements up to 6 meters wide, further optimizing agricultural work.
How much does the E-Horse solar tractor cost?
The E-Horse is not only a technological innovation, but also a step towards more sustainable agriculture. With a starting price of €100,000, this tractor is an attractive solution for farmers looking to reduce energy costs and care for the environment at the same time. In addition, its ability to work long hours with solar energy makes it an indispensable ally for crop maintenance tasks.
The E-Horse passed tests in 2023 and has proven to be highly efficient in crop weeding, marking a significant advance in agricultural mechanization with low environmental impact.
