Arevon Energy, a leading developer of renewable energy projects, has launched its innovative Eland 1 solar and storage project in Kern County, California.

This project, with a capacity of 384 MWdc in solar energy and 150 MW/600 MWh of energy storage , is part of an ambitious effort to transform the state’s energy infrastructure, providing a reliable and sustainable source of electricity during peak demand in the region.

A large-scale solar and storage project

The initial phase of Eland 1 is now operational , while the second phase remains under construction with plans to come online in the first quarter of 2025. Together, the two phases will total 758 MWdc of solar capacity and 300 MW/1,200 MWh of storage , making it one of the largest solar and battery storage facilities in the United States, with an investment exceeding $2 billion.

This combined solar infrastructure will not only contribute to the stability of the energy grid in California, but will also play a critical role in improving the resilience of the regional electric grid , meeting the challenges of growing demand and providing clean, renewable energy on a consistent basis.

Community benefits and local commitment

In addition to its energy implications, Eland 1 has generated significant economic and social benefits. During its construction, the project employed 325 local people , which has had a positive impact on local economies. The facility is also expected to contribute more than $18 million in revenue to local governments over its lifetime, earmarked for schools, emergency services and other essential services.

According to Arevon CEO Kevin Smith, this project underscores the company’s commitment to renewable energy development in California. Arevon continues to establish itself as a leader in the sector, with more than 4,500 MW of operational energy capacity in 17 US states. Through projects such as Eland 1 , the company continues to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions that support both the local economy and the transition to a cleaner energy matrix.

Strategic partners and long-term contracts

Eland 1 is under a long-term power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority. This strategic alliance with key stakeholders such as the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Glendale Water and Power ensures that the energy generated by the project will benefit thousands of homes and businesses in the region.

SOLV Energy, a San Diego-based company, led the engineering, procurement and construction of this ambitious project.
