Last June 22, EHang presented its latest passenger flight tests at a special event. Attendees were able to experience a short, low-altitude ride in the EH216-S model, flying over the stunning mountain and lake scenery of Baizhangji Fall & Feiyun Lake Scenic Resort. This event was an important step in the popularization of pilotless air tourism.

The company’s testing is not new, but the recent event was significant because it marked the delivery of 27 EH216-S units to the government. the delivery of 27 EH216-S units to the government. The county government also plans to expand its fleet to 300 units by 2026, with the goal of leading in this emerging industry.

This infrastructure is planned to be replicated throughout the county to support the launch of EH216-S commercial air tourism services.

Innovation and certification in Chinese civil aviation

At the event, Zhaozheng Luo, secretary of the county government, stressed the importance of developing the low-lying economy. With government support and collaboration with EHang, Wencheng seeks to innovate and explore new business models in this sector, accelerating the integration of low-altitude applications and promoting tourism and local culture.

The Chinese government is supporting this development by regulating and certifying the industry. eVTOL expecting the low-altitude economy market to double in size by 2026. The company has also signed agreements with other entities, such as China Southern Airlines, to develop more EH216-S applications in the city of Zhuhai.

It is important to remember that the EH216-S, equipped with 16 propellers and capacity for two passengers, can travel up to 30 km at a maximum speed of 81 mph, using 4G/5G connectivity to communicate with the control center.

Its starting price for global markets is $410,000 , and in April, the company received a Production Certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), validating its mass production (CAAC), validating its mass production quality management system.
