In an ambitious step within its Ecopetrol 2040 strategy: Energy that Transforms, state-owned Ecopetrol has announced an investment of 512 million dollars to increase hydrocarbon production in the Dina-Terciarios and Palogrande fields, located in Neiva and Aipe, Huila, Colombia.
This project, in addition to strengthening the region’s energy capacity, will benefit local communities with economic income and development opportunities.
Plans for hydrocarbon production
Between 2025 and 2028, Ecopetrol will develop a set of activities that include the drilling of 82 new wells , of which 43 will be producers and 39 will be injectors, as well as the optimization of 11 existing wells. The goal is to achieve an increase of 9,200 barrels of oil per day and 2 million cubic feet of gas by 2030. This will significantly raise the current production level in Huila, where the company currently produces 15,800 barrels of oil and gas equivalent per day .
The initiative projects a significant contribution in revenue for the Nation, estimated at 423 million dollars annually in royalties and taxes and an additional commitment of 12.7 million dollars for social and environmental investments. These contributions will strengthen the well-being of communities through infrastructure, education, health and environmental sustainability programs.
The project will also create 800 progressive jobs, with priority given to local workers, who will be added to the execution of these operations starting in May 2025.
Social and environmental commitment
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Ecopetrol will implement water management actions, reusing 100% of the water produced to achieve neutrality in the consumption of the resource. The project also contemplates the reduction of 656 tons of carbon dioxide annually through the use of energy efficiency technologies and the use of gas , contributing to the company’s sustainability objective.
Ecopetrol reaffirms its collaboration with local authorities and communities in Huila to ensure the continuity of operations and maximize the benefits of the project in the region. Ronald Mauricio Morales, Ecopetrol’s Andean Development and Production Manager, highlighted that this investment promotes the country’s energy growth and Huila’s progress in social and environmental terms.
With this investment, Ecopetrol seeks to consolidate its position as a leader in sustainable energy production, promoting the development of the region through a strategy that combines productivity and environmental commitment.
