In the midst of the environmental challenges facing Chile, two Industrial Civil Engineering students at the Universidad del Bío-Bío, Constanza Soto and Franco Cariqueo, have created an ecological firewood called Calory Bricks, made from forest residues that promises to reduce polluting emissions by 99.4%.
The south of Chile, characterized by its intensive use of firewood for heating, is one of the areas most affected by air pollution. air pollution.. With cities such as Coyhaique and Temuco topping the lists of the most polluted cities in South America, the need for sustainable alternatives is urgent. Calory Bricks, developed with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, offers a significant reduction in pollution and has up to 18.5% higher calorific value and 30% longer life than conventional firewood.

This project arose within the framework of the IncubaUdeC Green Tournamentwhere Soto and Cariqueo identified the opportunity to convert forest residues into a useful and ecological product. Ecological firewood mitigates pollution and also offers a viable economic solution, as it is competitively priced compared to traditional firewood .
Moreover, the positive impact of Calory Bricks has transcended borders. Franco Cariqueo had the opportunity to present the project in Boston, where he explored the possibility of expanding its reach into international markets. According to Cariqueo, this trip allowed him to visualize the global potential of his invention, as well as learn from some of the best practices in innovation and sustainability.
