The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, affirmed this Tuesday that the Dos Bocas refinery will be fully operational by mid-2023.
“I hope that next year it will already be producing at full capacity, yes, that we can have it no later than the middle of next year,” the president highlighted during his morning conference.
The Olmeca oil complex, located in the port of Dos Bocas, in the state of Tabasco, is one of the most significant infrastructure projects of the López Obrador administration.
The refinery began construction in August 2019 and was formally inaugurated on July 1, 2022, in accordance with the promise made by the president to open it four years after his electoral victory. Despite its rapid opening, the complex has not been able to come into operation.
During his meeting with the media on Tuesday, the president explained that although the first stage of the work has already been completed, the plant is currently in “an integration phase”, which will be followed by a trial period. However, he insisted that he expects it to start operating a year before he leaves the presidency, in October 2024.
“We have time so that before finishing, we are going to have about a year to be operating it,” he reaffirmed.
