Dominion Energy has successfully completed the first phase of foundation installation for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind ( CVOW ) project, achieving its installation objectives on time and on budget.

At 43% complete, the CVOW project is the largest offshore wind facility under construction in the United States and is expected to generate up to 2.6 gigawatts of clean energy, with the primary goal of supplying approximately 660,000 homes.
During this first season of work, 78 monopile foundations and four substation foundations were installed 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach, meeting the company’s objectives for the project. These foundations were manufactured by EEW SPC and will be the foundation for the wind turbines that will be installed beginning in 2025.
The company will continue to work on the onshore transmission infrastructure and laying of export cables in the coming months, preparing the site for the assembly of the turbines in the next phase of construction.
Dominion Energy President and CEO Robert M. Blue underscored the critical role of offshore wind in diversifying clean energy sources: “Our offshore wind project in Virginia demonstrates that clean, regulated energy is a viable solution to meet the growing demand for affordable and reliable energy in the United States .”
In addition to contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions, the CVOW project will generate economic benefits for the Hampton Roads region and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The company estimates that more than 1,000 local jobs will be needed for operations and maintenance of the wind farm once it is operational in 2026, adding to the nearly 1,000 workers who have participated in the initial construction and preparation stages.
