The Progress LNG barge will be a key element in improving access to cleaner energy for ship operators at the Port of Savannah, Georgia, where it will be commissioned later this month. In this regard, Crowley has signed a long-term agreement with Shell NA LNG(Shell) to manage the operation of the barge, thereby adding a new LNG bunkering point for vessels using it.

In the words of James C. Fowler, senior vice president and general manager of Crowley Shipping, “the LNG Progress barge sets a new standard for quality and capacity to meet the shipping industry’s energy needs.” Fowler mentioned that LNG represents a safe and reliable option for ocean carriers, contributing to the transition toward reducing emissions. He also praised the design and construction team for their dedication and hard work, which made this important breakthrough possible for the U.S. maritime industry.

Moreover, the barge, which has a length of 416 feet and a capacity of 12,000 m³, has been designed by Crowley’s engineering services team. This innovative design allows for an efficient and efficient and reliable supply of LNG to the ships.. Among its advanced technologies is the ability developed in collaboration with Shell and Crowley’s engineering team to flexibly distribute LNG to different types of containment systems.

Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding vice president and general manager Jan Allman proudly mentioned that his company continues to lead in the construction of LNG bunkering barges. “We are proud to see another vessel built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding depart from Sturgeon Bay for its new operating port. I am proud of the work of our entire team “Allman said.
