Sulmara has been awarded a grant from the Net Zero Technology Center (NZTC) to advance the creation of an unmanned surface vessel (USV) with the capability to deploy and retrieve towed sensor packages.

Autonomous vessel promises improved safety and efficiency at sea

This innovative project aims to establish a new, more environmentally friendly methodology for the acquisition of data needed in the decommissioning of infrastructure. decommissioning of marine energy offshore energy infrastructures. Applications foreseen include verification of seabed cleanup, monitoring of marine organism growth, environmental and critical component monitoring, as well as 3D imaging of underwater infrastructures. 3D imaging of underwater infrastructures.

By testing this technology in a live maritime environment, we seek to encourage the industry to re-evaluate its supply chain and consider how remote systems can offer not only environmental and health and safety (HSE) benefits, but also a significant reduction in long-term data acquisition costs.

said Andy Doggett, the company’s technical director.
