CPFL Energia’s CampusGrid project improves microgrids at Unicamp

CPFL Energia has inaugurated the CampusGrid project on the Unicamp campus, a microgrid that integrates solar energy, lithium-ion battery storage and a natural gas generator. This initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies with a positive impact on costs and the environment.

The microgrid of the CampusGrid project

The project was carried out in partnership with ANEEL and other academic institutions such as UFMA and CEPRI of China, and represents a joint effort to advance smart electrical networks. With an investment of 45.3 million Brazilian reals, this microgrid saves energy annually for Unicamp and manages to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

The CampusGrid supplies campus facilities such as libraries and the Faculty of Physical Education, ensuring continuous supply even during power outages. This model is scalable for industries, hospitals and remote communities.

This project includes two additional microgrids: The first is NanoGrid , installed at Unicamp’s Smart Grids Laboratory, which explores applications in residential environments, while the second is Congrid, which benefits 47 homes with solar energy and battery storage , ensuring a constant daily supply.
