Beacon Offshore Energy ’s Shenandoah Floating Production System ( Shenandoah FPS ) arrived in Ingleside, Texas on February 10, 2025, following a successful transport arranged by COSCO Shipping Heavy Transport . The unit was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, and transported aboard the 80,000-dwt semi-submersible vessel Xin Yao Hua.

The successful transport of the Shenandoah FPS

The arrival of the Shenandoah floating platform marked a significant event in the Shenandoah field’s offshore installation schedule at Walker Ridge. Prior to its final deployment, the FPS will undergo final preparations and regulatory checks at Kiewit Offshore Services’ facilities. It will then be transported to its final location in the Gulf of Mexico for anchoring and commissioning.

Phase 1 of the Shenandoah project includes the installation of mooring piles, the completion of four production wells and the construction of a 102-mile export pipeline. In addition, first crude oil extraction is estimated to occur in the second quarter of 2025, with an initial capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.

Beacon Offshore Energy has also approved Phase 2 of the development, which includes drilling two additional wells, expanding production capacity to 140,000 bpd and implementing a subsea pump to optimize crude oil flow. This phase seeks to add 110 million barrels of P50 resources between 2025 and 2028.

In addition to Shenandoah, Beacon and its partners are working on developing the Shenandoah South field , which will leverage the FPS infrastructure through a three-mile subsea tieback. Initial production from this new field is expected to begin in 2028, providing an additional 74 million barrels of crude oil.

Another project is Zephyrus , located in Mississippi Canyon Block 759. Following its discovery in 2023, initial development phases have been approved, which include tying the field into Shell Offshore ‘s subsea infrastructure. Production is projected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, adding approximately 75 million barrels of P50 resources.

To support these projects, Beacon’s partners have secured additional financing commitments of $150 million, bringing the total debt on the Shenandoah project to more than $1.2 billion. With the participation of companies such as HEQ Deepwater , Navitas Petroleum and Houston Energy , the company strengthens its position in deepwater offshore energy development.

Beacon Offshore Energy CEO Scott Gutterman highlighted the importance of the Shenandoah FPS to the company’s strategy, demonstrating the potential of discovered resources and the use of advanced seismic imaging technologies to optimize exploration.
