Swedish company Novige, creator of the NoviOcean hybrid energy system , has launched a funding campaign to bring its technology to large scale . The innovative device, which combines energy from waves, wind and sun, aims to be integrated into offshore wind farms, improving renewable energy production and reducing costs.
NoviOcean wins award and seeks expansion
NoviOcean recently won a SEK 1 million award at Startup4Climate, which has fueled its interest in expanding its operations. With a unique mix of wave, wind and solar PV energy , the system stands out for its ability to generate electricity in conditions where a single energy source might not be sufficient.
Jan Skjoldhammer, CEO of Novige, said the NoviOcean hybrid converter can power more than 1,000 households daily . This technology allows for maximizing the use of natural resources in the sea, as the units can be located next to offshore wind turbines, increasing overall efficiency by taking advantage of shared space and infrastructure.
Hybrid power system generates 25 MW in the sea
In one square kilometre, NoviOcean can generate up to 15 MW of wave energy, which increases to 25 MW when combined with wind turbines . This joint approach reduces costs and improves the profitability of offshore projects, making use of the same network of submarine cables and maritime space.

The NoviOcean system , designed for a lifespan of more than 40 years, has already undergone multiple tests in real-world environments. Recently, experiments were conducted at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, demonstrating the viability of the technology both in its scaled and offshore versions. Now, the company is looking to raise €12 million to increase the level of technological readiness and move towards large-scale production.
With an estimated output of 1 MW per unit and a capacity factor of 40% , the company projects a significant reduction in energy costs with 100 units installed. This effort aims to attract investors interested in economic profitability and also those focused on environmental sustainability and the transition to a cleaner energy model.
