Cyngn Inc. introduced the DriveMod Tugger, an autonomous tugboat powered by artificial intelligence. This vehicle, designed to automate repetitive transportation workflows such as moving finished goods or delivering supplies, represents a significant advancement in the integration of Cyngn’s DriveMod technology with Motrec International Inc.’s MT-160 tow tractor.

DriveMod Tugger: an intelligent autonomous tugboat

The DriveMod Tugger will be exhibited by the company at MODEX 2024. Cyngn’s participation, in partnership with Motrec, will take place March 11-14 in Atlanta, Georgia.

It’s all part of a previously announced collaboration with Motrec to launch an industry-leading autonomous tug featuring a 57-inch turning radius, a robust 6,000-pound towing capacity and automatic uncoupling capabilities.

Importantly, they are working on an engine controller upgrade that will increase towing capacity to 12,000 pounds in the coming months.

The combination of powerful material handling vehicles from Motrec, a globally recognized manufacturer of industrial vehicles, with Cyngn’s advanced AI-driven autonomous technology, DriveMod, enables organizations to improve the transportation of goods in a cost-effective and safe manner.

By integrating Cyngn’s DriveMod technology for advanced stand-alone operation, the DriveMod Tugger offers a number of valuable features for customers, including multi-layer perception, data analytics with Cyngn Insight, a lighting system that communicates vehicle actions to nearby employees, dual displays for employee interaction with vehicles, a manual mode that allows toggling between autonomous and manual operation, robust towing capabilities, and automatic unhooking capabilities that eliminate the need for human intervention to release towed cars.

Autonomous driving solutions

Cyngn’s autonomous driving solutions enable existing workforces to increase productivity and efficiency, addressing significant challenges such as labor shortages, costly safety incidents and growing consumer demand for e-commerce. Cyngn’s DriveMod Kit can be installed on new commercial vehicles at the end of the production line or via retrofit, allowing customers to adopt autonomous driving technology in their operations without high upfront costs or the need to completely replace existing vehicle investments.

Likewise, the adoption of autonomous vehicles in the industry not only promises to improve efficiency and safety in the transportation of materials, but is also emerging as a catalyst for innovation in the design of workspaces. By eliminating the need for human drivers for certain tasks, companies can reimagine their work environments, streamlining the flow of operations and fostering a safer and more productive environment.

This evolution towards autonomy not only redefines logistics capabilities, but also drives a shift towards more sustainable and adaptive work practices.
