Volocopter announced the progress of its new status with the Approved Training Organization (ATO) by the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrtbundesamt), through its subsidiary Volocopter Air Services, for the approval of eVTOL pilot training.
Advances in training homologation for new pilots
New legal developments allow the company to train pilots for its innovative future products, being the first developer of electric take-off and landing aircraft electric take-off and landing (eVTOL) to achieve such accreditation.
This certification gives Volocopter the authority to provide specific training for pilot licensing. The approval, granted without observations in the final audit, is the result of an exhaustive review process by the Luftfahrtbundesamt over the past year. Following a study, which verified the company’s compliance with strict rules and regulations for the production of training materials suitable for aircraft and simulators used in training.
With the obtaining of this approval, Volocopter is now embarking on the transition phase to conclude the training program for its VoloCity electric aircraft, in close collaboration with the German Federal Aviation Office. This effort represents the launch of its recent electric transports, scheduled for later this year, in line with the recently published EASA regulations governing the operation and licensing of pilots for this new category of eVTOLs.
The future of air transport
Since its founding, Volocopter has led projects and developments of future electric air cabs, with the vision of transforming urban transportation. In addition, the company was the first to receive Design Organization Approval (DOA) from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2019, laying the foundation for more than a decade of experience in the transport market.
The ATO concession is a crucial component for the company on its path to obtaining an Air Operator’s Certificate, which will allow it to operate its electric air cabs once the VoloCity aircraft is certified.
