H2 Green Mining and Ohmium have joined forces to decarbonize mining in Chile through a green hydrogen project.
The project to decarbonize mining in Chile
This project, which will initially develop a capacity of 20 MW in the north of the country, has the potential to expand up to 200 MW by taking advantage of the region’s solar and wind energy . They will use Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzer technology to produce hydrogen that will aid in copper smelting. In addition, it could be used as fuel for mining transport vehicles .
Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium , highlighted H2 Green Mining’s commitment to sustainability in copper mining. Julio Bertrand, from Star Energy Partners, also expressed enthusiasm for the possibilities that this project brings for the use of clean energy in Chilean mining.
Additionally, in September 2023, H2 Green Steel collaborated with Vale to evaluate the creation of green industrial centers in Brazil and North America, looking towards low-carbon steel production.
