The ship classification society, ClassNK, has granted approval in principle (AiP) to the multifunctional floating offshore wind farm support vessel (MFSV) design developed by K Line Wind Service, in collaboration with Japan Marine United Corporation and Nihon Shipyard.
A multifunctional vessel design
This innovative vessel presents a multifunctional concept, offering versatile solutions for every stage of offshore wind projects. From initial studies to transportation, construction, and maintenance operations, the MFSV provides a comprehensive response to the needs of the sector.
It also plays a key role in regions such as Japan, where shallow waters limit the installation of fixed offshore wind turbines. The installation of floating offshore wind turbines has traditionally required specialized mooring work.
The mooring system, consisting of anchor, chain and fiber cable, has been the subject of an exhaustive study by K Line Wind Service, Japan Marine United y Nihon Shipyardresulting in the MFSV design concept.
Successful support for a sustainable future
K Line Wind Service has led this initiative, working closely with Japan Marine United and Nihon Shipyard. Their commitment to efficiency and sustainability has culminated in the achievement of ClassNK’s AiP, enhancing the development of floating offshore wind energy.
This design concept has received financial support from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) as part of the Green Innovation Fund.
