Oil giant Chevron has achieved a new level of production at the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan after completing its Future Growth Project ( FGP ), positioning the field as one of the largest in the world.

With an investment of over $48 billion, the project has enabled an increase in extraction capacity of 260,000 barrels per day, bringing the total to one million barrels per day by mid-2025. This achievement adds to the success of the Wellhead Pressure Management Project ( WPMP ), aimed at optimizing field performance through the reinjection of sour gas and technological improvements in processing plants.

The Tengiz oil field, classified as a supergiant field, accounts for approximately 1% of global crude oil production. It is also an important element in the company’s strategy to expand its global operations. Mark Nelson, Chevron’s vice president, stressed that this development reinforces the company’s commitment to generating value for its shareholders and the local economy.

In a strategic alliance, the project is led by Tengizchevroil LLP , a partnership formed by Chevron ( 50% ), ExxonMobil ( 25% ), KazMunayGas ( 20% ) and Lukoil ( 5% ). This cooperation has led to improvements in sour gas management, an advanced control center and high-efficiency turbine generators.

According to Clay Neff, President of Chevron International Exploration & Production , this project reflects the strong collaboration between the company, Kazakhstan and the local workforce, generating an economic impact for the country. With this progress, Chevron increases its global production, and optimizes its energy portfolio in regions such as the Permian and the Gulf of Mexico.
