In a major technological breakthrough, Cemvita, a company dedicated and specialized in the processing of sustainable oil from waste, achieved historical records in large industrial biotechnology capabilities, crude oil production and refining.

Cemvita promotes industrial biotechnology

The company Cemvita has unveiled technologies behind its microbial waste-to-oil process, achieving efficiencies that enable the production of up to 500 barrels per day of sustainable oil at its first commercial plant, a goal it hoped to reach by 2029.

“Our focus on fundamentals has enabled us to design and create new biotechnologies more cost-effectively and rapidly than ever before. Our combination of low CAPEX design, innovations in bioprocess engineering and higher productivity, driven by synthetic biology, sets us apart. Today’s achievement in producing sustainable oil from crude glycerin efficiently comes just two months after our breakthrough in developing a solvent-free extraction bioprocess. All of this work has taken place at our pilot plant in Houston.”

Moji Karimi, CEO of Cemvita.

In an industry where achieving the necessary scale is costly and limited, Cemvita’ s technological developments in lipid productivity have enabled the company to quadruple its planned production. This achievement is due in part to adaptive evolutionary improvements in its state-of-the-art microorganisms. In addition, reactor optimization has increased oil extraction efficiency by at least 330%.

This announcement is expected to have positive implications for the market, including increased production capacity, improved operational efficiency and a strengthened competitive position in the sustainable oil market. The company leads the biotechnology industry industry by harnessing the power of nature in combination with synthetic biology to decarbonize heavy industries and deliver cleaner products without negative impact and without sacrificing the benefits of today’s carbon-based manufacturing economy.

Cemvita continues to gain momentum through its partnerships and acquisition of world-class talent. In collaboration with Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, Cemvita is working to efficiently produce sustainable fats, chemicals and fuel feedstocks using its state-of-the-art microbial suite and bioprocess design.

In mid-June, Nadia Skorupa Parachin was hired as Vice President, Industrial Biotechnology, and aims to accelerate the company’ s advances in synthetic biology, driving greater efficiency. Phil Garcia, recently promoted to Vice President of Commercialization, joined Cemvita last year, leading the company’s commercialization efforts. Cemvita anticipates announcing more technological and production breakthroughs in the coming months, promising a future of increased productivity and sustainability.
