Recently, the V Oil, Gas and Energy Summit took place at the Ágora Convention Center in Bogotá and organized by the Colombian Oil and Gas Association (ACP); the Colombian Chamber of Oil, Gas and Energy Goods and Services (Campetrol), the Colombian Association of Petroleum Geologists and Geophysicists (Acggp) and the Colombian Association of Engineers (Aciem).
In this edition, Nelson Castañeda, president of Campetrol, during his speech, emphasized that the transition must be a safe process, because unconventional energy sources are gaining more and more weight, as indicated by research. “Colombia must also generate an export and fiscal transition; transition is synonymous with evolution and progress, and this does not happen overnight,” he added.
He explained that the industry seeks to contribute in terms of sustainability. “After 100 years in Colombia, this industry does not stop working; it moves an entire country innovating in technology to reduce environmental impact, always on the path to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Colombia.”
Likewise, Castañeda highlighted the five main challenges facing the sector:
Chaining and employment to reduce poverty
Fight against climate change and compliance with the SDGs
More technology to capture CO2 emissions
Macroeconomic stability and competitiveness
Energy security and well-being
According to data collected by the organizing unions of the Summit, in 2021, companies in the oil, gas and liquid fuels industry contributed around $36 billion to the country, and a contribution of $61 billion is expected for 2022.
