The company Air Products announced a multimillion-dollar investment for the construction of a zero-emission hydrogen production plant in Alberta, Canada.

As announced by the company, they hope that the plant will boost the country’s economic sector, laying the foundations for the most competitive hydrogen network with lower carbon emissions, which will be executed by Air Products.

The Canadian Government has the goal of reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, recognizing hydrogen as a path to neutrality and implementing energy diversification from clean sources.

Since 2018, Air Products began working on the design of this world-scale complex located in Edmonton, which is scheduled to start operations in 2024 and achieve a net zero emission hydrogen production and liquefaction valued at 1.3 billion Canadian dollars. .

The company anticipates exceeding 1,500 tons of hydrogen production per day in Alberta. Similarly, more than three million tons of CO 2 captured per year.

The plant aims to be a model capable of taking advantage of Canada’s natural resources, capturing more than 95% of the CO 2 generated by the reforming of natural gas and storing it safely underground. It will generate clean electricity, produce zero-emission hydrogen for the transportation sector, in addition to positively impacting the reduction of carbon emissions in Alberta, developing the economy in Western Canada.
