Canacol Energy reported that a natural gas discovery was made in the Lulo 2 evaluation well – located in the VIM21 Exploration and Production (E&P) contract.

According to the company’s data, to give the positive result, a total depth of 7,112 feet was reached, measured on June 1, 2023.

Successful exploration: Canacol Energy reveals promising results from Lulo 2 well

The well encountered a true depth of 230 feet of natural gas (container net pay) with an average porosity of 20% within the primary Ciénaga de Oro (CDO) sandstone reservoir.

Canacol said it is preparing to case and complete the well and will then connect it directly to permanent production through the Jobo gas treatment plant, located just fifty meters from the Lulo drilling rig.

Canacol Energy gas sales in May

Realized contractual sales of natural gas (which are gas produced, delivered and paid for) were 189 million standard cubic feet per day for May 2023, flat against sales for the same month in 2022.

For its part, Canacol Energy assured that, after completing the Lulo 2 well, the corporation will mobilize the platform to begin drilling the Piña Norte 1 exploration well, located approximately 300 meters southwest of the Jobo production facility.

Piña Norte 1 is also in the VIM21 E&P contract, 100% operated.

The Piña Norte prospect, like Lulo, is one of five exploration prospects targeting the Middle and Lower CDO sandstone reservoir at depths of approximately 9,000 feet located in close proximity to the company’s main production facilities at Jobo. .

If successful, as in the case of Lulo, these near-field exploration prospects can provide new commercial production within weeks of discovery. Canacol Energy expects results from Piña Norte 1 by mid-July 2023.

It must be said that Piña Norte 1 will be followed by the drilling of the Cereza 1 exploration well, located approximately one kilometer north of the Jobo production facilities.

The gas company is drilling the Clarinete 8 development well, located in its VIM5 Exploration and Exploitation Contract, 100% operated. Clarinet 8 is anticipated to be completed and linked to permanent production by the end of June 2023.

Canacol Energy’s current drilling program is focused on adding additional natural gas production capacity, which will be available to consumers ahead of the El Niño season in the second half of 2023, when gas demand is anticipated to be high.
